What is the Full Form of IES ?

IES - Indian Engineering Services


Indian Engineering Services are the civil services in the various department of the Government of India. The Officers for various posts in IES are recruited on the basis of entrance exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), once in a year.

IES officers are selected by the union government on the recommendations made by the UPSC. There are various sectors under which these engineers can work: Public works department (PWD), Rail, Roads, Power, Telecommunications, etc.

Mainly there are four branches of engineers which are eligible for the recruitment in IES: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and  Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
