RAW - Research and Analysis Wing
The Research and Analysis Wing, formed in September 1968, is an external intelligence agency of the Republic of India. Headquartered in New Delhi, it is the most powerful agency that keeps sharp eye on the activities of other countries, specially neighboring ones and fight terrorism. It is also involved in the security of India's nuclear programme.
Origin of RAW
It was created in response to the poor performance of Intelligence Bureau in the wars against China in 1962 and Pakistan in 1965. It was created as an independent agency which is not answerable to the Parliament but directly to the Prime Minister of India.
