CD ROM – Compact Disk Read-Only Memory
CD-ROMs are popularly used to copy various contents like software, video games and multimedia files (MP3, video, images), from a Compact Disk (CD). There are a number of features that distinguish CD-ROM players, the most important of which is probably their speed.
Some of the common found speeds are :-
- Single-speed (1x)
- Double-speed (2x)
- Quad-speed (4x)
- Six-speed (6x)
- Eight-speed (8x)
- Sixteen speed (16x)
- Thirty two speed (32x)
The Speed varies according to the number. For example, a 4X player access data at four times the speed of a single-speed player.
Size : a standard CD is 120 mm in Diameter and 1.2 mm thick.
