CE – Common Era
Common Era is used as an alternate naming of the traditional calendar era, AD (Anno Domini). This alternate naming system was introduced for the non-christian people around the world. As there are many communities in the world like Hindu, Jews, Muslims who are not christian and it makes no sense for them to make use of AD/BC labeling system which is based on birth of “Christ”.
The Common Era is also known as Current Era or Christian Era. “CE” and “AD” represents the same year, e.g. the year “AD 2014” is the same year as “2014 CE”. An alternative to BC (Before Christ) is the BCE (Before the Common Era) notation which also represents the same year as BC.
