DCE – Distributed Computing Environment
The Distributed Computing Environment is an industry-standard, vendor independent, software system which was developed by the Open Software Foundation (OSF), a consortium focused on developing standards for cross-platform compatibility.
The software has a framework and a toolkit which is used to develop client/server applications which could run on any vendor’s system. DCE basically works in an environment that has large number of different size computers scattered around the web geographically.
