DNS – Domain Name System
The Domain Name System is used to translate Internet domain and host names to IP addresses. It uses a distributed database to store the combination of name and address information. DNS converts the domain names we type in our Web browser address bar to the IP addresses with the help of a name server.
Need of a Domain Name System
IP addresses can be difficult for people to remember. It’s much easier to remember the domain name www.fullformof.in than to remember its corresponding IP address 207.1xx.1xx.48. So, a DNS server, will hold a list of all the IP addresses along with its corresponding domain names, which can be retrieved when required.
