ECC – Excise Control Code
Excise Control Code number is a link PAN based 15 digit alpha numeric registration number given to all the Central Excise Assesses under Central Excise Act. It is used to identify each assessee who is liable to pay excise duty to Government of India.
Format of ECC Number
It is a PAN based 15 digit alpha numeric numbers. The first 10 digits of the code is the same as the PAN number of the concerned person to whom the Excise Control Code is to be allotted. The next 2 characters are alphabets which could be:
XM – Central Excise Manufacturer
XD – Registered Dealer
The Last three characters could be 001, 002 or 003 depending on the number of registered factory, dealer’s premise or warehouse.
