FIR – First Information Report
First Information Report is a written document prepared by police organizations, when they receive information by the victim of a cognizable offense or by someone on his on her behalf. FIR should be appended by the signature of the informer and a copy of the same should be given to the informer.
Procedure for filing a First Information Report
The information should be entered in the FIR register maintained at every police station. The Page Holds the Following Information :-
- FIR Number
- Name of the victim or the person who is reporting a complaint
- The name of the offender (if known) or its description
- Description of the offense
- Place of the offense
