GSM – Global System for Mobile Communications
Global System for Mobile Communications, is a standard set developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), as a replacement for first generation (1G) cellular networks.
Technical Details – GSM uses narrow band TDMA, that is 30 kHz wide and 6.7 milliseconds long, split time-wise into three time slots which allows eight simultaneous calls on the same radio frequency.
