HDD – Hard Disk Drive
HDD is the usually the largest and permanent data storage device in a computer, Laptop or Tablet. It is often called as “disk drive,” “hard drive,” or “hard disk drive”. It can be connected to a system using ATA, SCSI, or a SATA cable along with a power cable.
History – The hard drive was first introduced on September 13, 1956 and consists of one or more hard drive platters inside of air sealed casing.
The main components of an HDD are :-
- Head Actuator
- Spindle & Platter
- Read/Write actuator arm
- Read/Write head
- Disk controller
Hard Drives could be External or Internal :-
Internal HDD – Hard Drives used in a computer, Laptop or Tablet are Internal Hard Disk Drives.
External HDD – Many users use external hard drives to backup data from their computer.
