LTE – Long Term Evolution
The ‘Long Term Evolution’ or LTE is one of the most popular 4G network type. It offers a faster and reliable mobile data connection for smartphones, tablet and other handheld and wireless devices. It is usually denoted by the ‘4G LTE’ symbol on a mobile screen.
It is a result of the research done by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) which was aimed at providing a data rate of up to 10x faster than the 3G network.
LTE is not a replacement for UMTS which was used with 3G, but rather a ‘Long Term Evolution’ of the existing UMTS technology which could offer much higher data rate.
