.NET – Network

.NET is Top level domain (TLD) originally for network providers, Web-hosting companies or other businesses that are directly involved in the infrastructure of the Internet. However, restrictions were never enforced and the domain is now a general purpose name space. Webmasters registers .NET domains for commercial use, generally if the .COM extension isn’t available.

It is one of the most common extension that you’re probably familiar with. Other Top level domains are .COM & .ORG.
