Windows NT – Windows New Technology
Windows NT was the first Windows operating system that supports preemptive multitasking. It was designed to give faster performance, scalability and a little more fail-safe system than Windows 95 and Windows 98.
This 32-bit operating system was the successor of Windows 98 and released in two versions: Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server. The Windows NT (New Technology) Workstation was designed to work on a standalone system for individual users. The Windows NT (New Technology) server is built to act as a server that provides services to network-attached computers.
The Windows NT kernel is the base for its successor operating system – Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The new Windows file system technology “NTFS” was also introduced with Windows NT. The system has better security and management features than Windows 95.
